If it's Archery season it's not
uncommon to lay in bed at night and hear elk bugling behind
camp. Our morning hunt starts just before day break with
a good hearty breakfast, or at your request, a lighter
meal to begin the day. It's then a 10 minute drive or
a 30 minute hike and we're in the middle of the Elk's
rutting ground. With the morning fog slowly lifting and
the sun making it's first impression on the western peaks
we hear what sounds to be a mature bull bugle 600 yards
to one side of us in the open meadows surrounded by Aspen
Trees. Suddenly the mountain side begins to erupt with
cow talk and bulls bugling. After several hours of adrenalin
pumping action and breathtaking scenery we break for lunch.
Depending on the day, lunch may
find us up on the mountain overlooking the incredible
Montana landscape. Our cook has been known to bring
the portable griddle and have something hot waiting for
us. If it is decided that lunch break would be at camp,
many a lunch hour has been spent tuning up shooting skills
on the life size targets placed around the area. After
seeing what is out there, a missed shot can be heartbreaking.
Some of our hunters have been known to use this time to
take a short siesta before the evening hunt. The choice
is yours.
Then it's back out in the early afternoon
to get setup for the elk returning to their feeding grounds.
Along the way, you may spot some beautiful Mule Deer bucks
wondering what all the commotion is about. After the evening
hunt, we return to camp where there will be cold refreshments
and plenty of snacks waiting on the table. As we all sit
back and relax, the cook will be preparing the most sensational
homemade mountain meal you'll ever experience. Stories
of the days hunt will be reminisced while waiting for
dinner, during dinner, and probably after dinner too.
Morning comes early so it's off to a warm
tent with a full stomach in the fresh mountain air.....It's
only been the first day and you can tell already that
this week will not be long enough.
